Stefan Wiens (*1986) lives as a painter and sculptor in Hamburg. Vienna's sculptures observe, comment on, question and ironize social and socio-cultural conditions. They address the tension between power and vulnerability. The artist uses artificial materials such as Styrofoam, aluminum and chipboard for his work. The interplay of the variety of materials combines classic sculptural concepts with contemporary craftsmanship approaches, such as shell construction, vault construction, gutting, drywall construction or furniture construction. It combines chainsaw cuts with caustic acid treatment of surfaces as well as surgically precise cutters with epoxy paint runners. In this way, (material) touch determines the end result and is a core part of Wien's work.
