Studio Offbeat

Offfbeat makes art for people who care about a climate- and socially just built environment. Michael Hennings works under his artist name OFFBEAT at the interface between urban contemporary art and architecture. Both urban art and architecture are subject areas that have accompanied him for a long time. The first intensive engagement with urban space took place through graffiti writing. Through studying architecture and working in various renowned architectural offices, these impressions were supported with theoretical and technical knowledge and found their way into his artistic work. In this environment characterized by architectural themes, he came to the realization that continuing to build as before is not justifiable from an ecological, social and economic perspective. The fact that around 40% of European greenhouse gases are caused by the building sector (construction and operation) alone shows that a rethink needs to take place here. His work is directly related to building culture and sustainable architecture. They tell stories about the effect of architecture on us as humans and how people influence architecture. At the same time, the works encourage unconventional but responsible action in order to create truly contemporary architecture with a positive impact on a sustainable world.
